If I have a favorite category of novel, it’s dysfunctional domestic fiction. Little Children falls into this category perfectly, and in many ways is more realistic, with more involving characters, than other novels of this kind. It’s far better than A.M. Homes’ [book: Music for Torching], and certainly up there with John Cheever’s [book: Oh What a Paradise It Seems]. (I enjoyed that within the novel, there is a book group discussion of [book: Madame Bovary].) Thinking that it was heading in a completely different direction, I really enjoyed the ending. The book, like Perrotta’s novel [book: Election], seems perfectly adaptable to the screen.
