This excellent, if characteristically sad chapter in the Inspector Erlendur series follows the team as they work through the murder of Thai child in a Reykjavik housing project -- a crime which has laid bare the rise of anti-immigrant sentiment amid Iceland's economic stagnation. As always, the personal lives of Erlendur's staff weigh heavily on their minds, until a murder investigation becomes something like a break from personal failure. A grim book, but a great addition to Indriưason's Erlendur novels.
